A New Psychological Thriller on the Horizon: “Reale” Begins Filming with Angelo Di Grumo

Rising Italian talent Angelo Di Grumo takes the lead in director Marco Piras’s upcoming psychological thriller

Filming has officially commenced on Reale, a highly anticipated short thriller that promises to delve deep into the human psyche. The project brings together a compelling creative team to explore the complex boundaries between morality and human vulnerability.

A Gripping Exploration of Mind and Morality

The narrative of Reale holds deep personal roots. The original concept was conceived by producer Giannina Balostro, who based the story on a real account passed down to her by her grandfather, Giacomo. While Balostro serves as the producer and creator of the story, director Marco Piras took charge of adapting this intimate tale into the final screenplay, ensuring a tense and atmospheric cinematic experience.

Characters and Cinematic Confrontations

In this psychological puzzle, Angelo Di Grumo steps into the shoes of the protagonist, a journalist named Mario De Bartoli. His character will find himself in a dark narrative web, facing off against the film’s central antagonist, “U Bacci,” portrayed by Francesco Uccheddu. The clash between De Bartoli and Uccheddu’s villainous character aims to provide a profound exploration of human frailty, pushing the audience to confront uncomfortable psychological truths.

Di Grumo’s Growing International Presence

For Di Grumo, leading Reale follows another major career milestone. The Italian actor recently starred as one of the main protagonists in the historical film Goffredo e l’Italia Chiamò, Directed by Angelo Antonucci.
From August 8, 2026, “Goffredo and Italy Called” arrives in the USA. Distributed by VMedia – Los Angeles ROKU.
Expanding his international reach, that project has just become available to American audiences, streaming on the Roku platform in the U.S. since August 8.

A Powerful Soundtrack to Shape the Atmosphere

To elevate the thriller’s tension, the production has enlisted composer Pierpaolo Lucca to score the short film. Lucca boasts a prestigious track record, frequently collaborating with the acclaimed maestro Marco Werba. Interestingly, the duo previously joined forces to compose the soundtrack for Goffredo e l’Italia Chiamò, and Lucca’s upcoming score for Reale is expected to bring the same level of emotional depth and sonic precision to Piras’s latest work.

Release Strategy and Festival Circuit

Following the completion of principal photography and post-production, Reale is slated to begin its international film festival run in early 2027. The producers aim to debut the short film at major European showcases, targeting prestigious events known for celebrating independent cinema and psychological drama. A wider digital distribution and exclusive screening events are expected to follow later next year.
