Sunday, September 6, 2026 marks the thirteenth edition of the Giornata del Panorama, the event that since 2014 the FAI – Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano ETS has organized to invite the public to observe and understand Italy’s multifaceted panoramas.
This year the initiative carries an even deeper meaning. In a time marked by the increasingly evident effects of climate change and by often irreversible transformations caused by human action, learning to “read” the landscape means understanding its fragility and recognizing the value of its protection. To stop and look with attention and awareness becomes an act of responsibility towards a cultural and landscape heritage that belongs to everyone.
From mountains to coasts, from art cities to hills, from agricultural landscapes to islands and biodiversity-rich natural areas, Italian panoramas are the result of the virtuous, indissoluble intertwining of nature and human presence. They tell the identity of territories and communities – a legacy we must pass on intact.
Nineteen Landscapes Across Eleven Regions
For 2026, FAI has expanded the event to its most ambitious map yet: eighteen FAI Properties from north to south Italy, plus Oasi Zegna in Trivero Valdilana (BI), the vast environmental and social project wanted by Ermenegildo Zegna and patronized by FAI since 2014.
The route goes from Villa Rezzola in Lerici (SP) to Saline Conti Vecchi in Assemini (CA), from Castello di Avio in Sabbionara d’Avio (TN) to Bosco di San Francesco in Assisi (PG), from Villa Gregoriana in Tivoli (RM) to Baia di Ieranto in Massa Lubrense (NA).
Two Properties will participate for the first time: the Memoriale Brion in Altivole (TV), the masterpiece by Carlo Scarpa, and Casa Noha in Matera.
In total, a full immersive experience in nineteen Italian landscapes in eleven regions, to be observed “from afar” with new awareness, but also discovered “up close” through recreational and cultural activities designed to reveal not just what can be seen, but the sounds, scents, colours, atmospheres and memories that create what FAI calls the “sensitive landscape” – a landscape capable of evoking emotion, memory and belonging.
From Dawn in Matera to Stars Over Manta: The Unmissable Experiences
Through panoramic walks, guided visits with environmental guides, stories about territorial evolution, vegetation excursions, marine explorations, family activities, concerts and creative workshops, each site will offer its own reading of the panorama.
Among the highlights announced by FAI:
At the Memoriale Brion, a special guided visit at 11:00 dedicated to the green and the landscape surrounding the memorial – an alphabet of greenery made of volumes and graphic signs poetically integrated into Scarpa’s architecture.
In Basilicata, at Casa Noha, an itinerary at dawn through the Sassi of Matera, departing at 5:30 am from Piazza Vittorio Veneto. Silent streets, golden light and panoramic views for photography, to discover the most hidden corners of Matera in the most magical moment of the day.
At the Bosco di San Francesco in Assisi, a unique experience from the Upper Basilica of San Francis to Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Terzo Paradiso, with medievalist Monica Lupparelli and archaeologist Alessio Pascolini guiding visitors through medieval spirituality and contemporary Land Art, olive groves, dry stone walls and the vertical viewpoint of Torre Annamaria.
Art takes centre stage with en plein air workshops: watercolour from life at Collezione Enrico a Villa Flecchia in Magnano (BI), overlooking the Serra Morenica of Ivrea and its glacial amphitheatre; a collage lab “Dall’Orto sul Colle dell’Infinito al paesaggio interiore” with artist Alice Pietrella / Collage Diary at the Orto sul Colle dell’Infinito in Recanati (MC); and two Sip&Paint sessions at Villa Gregoriana in Tivoli, which will become an open-air atelier among temples, waterfalls and the Aniene gorge, wine glass in hand.
Observation is the core gesture: at Villa Rezzola, binoculars will be provided to read the Gulf of Poets from Lerici to Palmaria, Tino and Portovenere, a UNESCO World Heritage site; at Castello della Manta (CN), the double event “Panorami stellati” on Saturday September 5 at 21:30 for stargazing, and “Panorami, confini e orizzonti” on Sunday with views from the truncated watchtower from Monviso to Monte Rosa, equipped with binoculars and compass.
For families, treasure hunts at Villa dei Vescovi in Luvigliano di Torreglia (PD) – “Caccia ai colori e ai dettagli” in the 3-hectare Brolo vineyard – and at the Batteria Militare Talmone in Palau (SS), combined with an evening trek and a sunset toast with local Vermentino DOCG.
A Journey From the Alps to the Sea
The full program, from north to south, confirms the diversity of Italian panoramas:
Piemonte: panoramic walks with environmental guide Roberto Brogliatti in the historic park of Castello e Parco di Masino to discover Europe’s largest lateral moraine, the Serra d’Ivrea; music in nature at Oasi Zegna, with open-air concerts in the Conca dei Rododendri and Casa Zegna garden, under the artistic direction of Enrico Carraro, plus the permanent exhibition “From Sheep to Shop” and Chiara Camoni’s temporary show “Luccicanza”.
Liguria: at Abbazia di San Fruttuoso in Camogli, architect Alessandro Capretti traces a thousand years of landscape change with historic postcards, followed by a naturalistic walk with Parco di Portofino guide Claudio Solimano; at Podere Lovara a Punta Mesco, trekking to the hermitage of S. Antonio along the Sentiero Verde Azzurro with tasting of local products and the video story narrated by Dario Vergassola.
Lombardia: at Palazzo Moroni in Bergamo, a special green walk on both Saturday 5 (3 pm) and Sunday 6 (10 am) comparing four landscape types – wild nature, the biodiversity of the “Lorenzo Rota” Botanical Garden, the Italian garden and the ortaglia – in collaboration with the Lombardy Botanical Gardens Network; at Torre del Soccorso in Tremezzina, free guided visits from 10 to 17 overlooking Lake Como from Bellagio to Villa del Balbianello.
Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Marche, Lazio, Campania, Sardegna: from the dawn walk in Matera to snorkeling and kayak explorations in Baia di Ieranto to discover the secret underwater panorama of the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area, and the sunset train tour among the red-tinted basins of Saline Conti Vecchi, home to pink flamingos and herons.
All events are on reservation, with some in case of bad weather cancelled or reduced.

The Giornata del Panorama was born in 2014 in collaboration with Oasi Zegna.
